BROWN PENNY by William Butler Yeats

In this poem entitled Brown Penny by William Butler Yeats, it’s regarding to the journey of a young man to find his true love. The theme of this poetry is about love and its awaiting. In the first stanza of the poem, the writer has whisper to himself that he is too young and old enough to search for a love. However, he believes that wherever he throws his penny there will be a hope for love there. He always tells to himself to go and get love if he ever find and meet a young and fair lady. Within this first stanza also, he has been trapped in the lady through the fairness of their hair, which means the beautifulness of the lady.

In the second stanza, the writer describe that love is a cruel matter. He believes that nobody is wise enough to understand what love is. It is impossible thing to know what exactly love is all about. The search for meaning of love will become a never ending journey, and nobody will know, when the love will come and go, and the writer still waiting for his brown penny lady, which means his long awaiting love one.
